akes are complex ecosystems, but taking action to protect them doesn’t have to be difficult. On Tuesday, Oct. 28, a new event called Sips and Science: Love Your Lakes will be held from 6-9 p.m. at the Hotel Saranac in Saranac Lake. Attendees will be able to experience hands-on, interactive displays from at least eight organizations as they learn about the threats Adirondack waterbodies face and what everyone can do to help keep those waterbodies healthy. The event will also serve as the release for a new “Love Your Lakes” brochure, which outlines eight simple actions that people can take to help keep Adirondack waters healthy. And don’t leave the little ones at home—The Wild Center will have activities to keep kids engaged.

6:00-7:00pm: Interactive displays and kids’ activities in the hotel’s grand ballroom

7:00-8:00pm: Speakers from APIPP, Adirondack Watershed Institute, and the Adirondack Center for Loon Conservation will give brief presentations on topics that threaten Adirondack lakes: invasive species, harmful algal blooms, and protecting wildlife habitat. The talks will be followed by a speaker panel and a chance for audience members to ask questions.

8:00-9:00pm: More time for people to visit the interactive displays and mingle
