Invasive insects and diseases can travel in or on contaminated firewood, which is why everyone should only use local firewood. That means to always burn firewood where you buy it rather than bringing wood from home in order to protect forests from tree-killing insects.
The Don’t Move Firewood campaign is an outreach partnership managed by The Nature Conservancy that has the goal of protecting forests across North America from invasive insects and diseases. More information, including firewood maps and downloadable graphics, can be found at dontmovefirewood.org.
