HWA Webinar January 24; APIPP is Hiring For Summer 2023

Dear Partners,

Happy Winter! As I reflect on the past year, I am filled with gratitude for all that our partners, volunteers, and staff accomplished this year. More than 700 sites were managed for terrestrial invasive species, and more than 140 lakes were surveyed for aquatic invasive species. We participated in over 40 events to raise awareness about invasive species prevention and management.

This is a collective effort. Thank you for your involvement in this important work. Read more below about how you can participate in Adirondack invasive species prevention activities in 2023.

  • Learn about hemlock woolly adelgid (HWA) at a webinar on January 24 and volunteer as a Forest Pest Hunter.
  • Share your work with partners at our February Partner Roundtables.
  • Apply for one of APIPP’s Summer 2023 seasonal positions or forward the information on to qualified candidates.

Join us in 2023 to help protect the Adirondacks!

Adirondack Forest Pest Hunters 2023 HWA Survey Season Kicks Off on January 24 at 10:00am

Help survey for HWA this winter. The survey season kicks off on January 24, 2023, with a Zoom webinar from 10:00am-11:30am. The webinar is a great opportunity to learn about HWA and how you can help survey for this invasive insect. Surveys from volunteers provide critical information for determining how far HWA has spread. This workshop will cover basic identification, survey techniques, and how to sign up for a trail to survey. Register here.

This is a joint program sponsored by APIPP, Adirondack Mountain Club, Capital Region PRISM, Lake George Land Conservancy, NYS iMapInvasives, NYS Hemlock Initiative, AuSable River Association, and Champlain Area Trails.

February 8: Aquatic Invasive Species Partner Roundtable—10:00am-11:30am

February 9: Terrestrial Invasive Species Partner Roundtable—10:00am-11:30am

It is hard for partners to stay connected during the winter, so we have set aside two mornings in February for partners to gather virtually to talk about plans for 2023. This is a great time to share your plans and ideas and to hear from others across the region. Mark your calendar now and register on our website for the February 8 Aquatic Partner Roundtable, the February 9 Terrestrial Partner Roundtable or both!
