APIPP Lake Protectors Training at Pecks Lake

Join Brian Greene, APIPP's aquatic invasive species project coordinator, on Saturday, July 13, at Pecks Lake Marina in Gloversville to learn the key identification of six aquatic invasive species of interest. This hands-on training will allow participants to see live and preserved specimens of the invasive species so they can feel confident about how to identify them. We will then review how to complete a report using online or paper materials. We will also cover submitting reports to www.nyimapinvasives.org, our statewide database.

Become an APIPP Lake Protector and help keep your favorite lake or stream safe from aquatic invasive species. Join APIPP and adopt a waterbody of your choice to survey for aquatic invasive species and report what you see or don't see to APIPP. Partners, organizations, and members of the public have partnered with APIPP for over 20 years to help us search for aquatic invasive species. People attend a training to learn how to identify and report aquatic invasive species. They then survey a waterbody of their choice at least once between July and September and report back to APIPP.

The general agenda is as follows:

  • 9:00-10:15am - Review species identification
  • 10:30-11:30am - Reporting using iMap and forms
  • 11:30-noon - Optional paddle to put your skills into practice. Bring your own boat and life vest if interested in joining
