Backcountry Water Monitoring: Horseshoe Pond | Partner Event

Over the past few decades, aquatic invasive species have made their way into Adirondack waterways. These aquatic hitchhikers can be unintentionally transported to new water bodies by boaters and recreationists. Early detection is the key to stopping these species before they take hold in a new home. ADK partners with the Adirondack Park Invasive Plant Program (APIPP) to run citizen science projects to search for and report invasive species in backcountry lakes and ponds. APIPP’s mission is to protect the Adirondack region from the negative impacts of invasive species.

Join ADK for this paddling day trip to conduct a citizen science survey at Horseshoe Pond. We will discuss how to identify native and non-native species while out on the water and share our findings. Approx. 4 miles flatwater paddling.

This trip is part of Adirondack Water Week, a collaborative celebration of our Adirondack freshwater resources and our precious watersheds. It is meant to raise awareness of water and have people join in events to learn, steward, and celebrate lakes and streams.

Cost: $30
