Thank you for your interest in joining this guided survey for hemlock woolly adelgid with Adirondack Mountain Club and Adirondack Park Invasive Plant Program.
Health insurance and proof of COVID-19 vaccination are required to participate in the program.
Minimum age: 12
Cost: Adult - $10.00
This guided snowshoe walk will help you learn to identify hemlock trees, survey for hemlock woolly adelgid, and report your findings in iMapInvasives, as well as to refresh your snowshoe and winter safety skills. This trip is designed to gain field experience after participating in an HWA webinar. A link to a recorded webinar will be available for registrants.
The hike will begin in Keene Valley at 10am and will proceed through some moderately steep terrain .75 miles up the trail to Rooster Comb. You will be going off the main trail to survey and may need to navigate steep or uneven terrain. The total round trip distance is approximately 1.5 miles.
Snowshoes are required and participants will be going off the trail to practice HWA surveying. ADK can provide snowshoes if you do not have them. Survey results will be recorded in iMapInvasvies so bring your mobile device with the iMapInvasives app loaded. A high-powered headlamp is also very helpful for surveying.
ADK members receive a 10% discount on programs and lodging. To reserve lodging at the Adirondak Loj, please call the Adirondack Mountain Club at (518) 523-3441 or book online.
