APIPP partners helped to raise awareness about invasive species during the 2012 Saranac Lake Winter Carnival when the theme was “Space Alien Invasion.”

Invasive species related events and activities are offered year round throughout the Adirondack region. Stay informed of the latest regional and statewide invasive species news and events by signing up for the APIPP PRISM Listserv and/or by following the APIPP PRISM Activity Blog.

Participating in one of the monthly NY statewide calls, described below, is another great way to learn about current invasive species events and issues.

APIPP PRISM Listserv

To facilitate communication within and among the eight New York Partnerships for Regional Invasive Species Management (PRISMs), eight e-mail “listservs” (or electronic mailing lists) have been established, one for each of the eight PRISMs. Click here for sign-up instructions.

This is a “working” listserv that APIPP’s Director uses to share information with partners and other interested parties. Content includes information about upcoming meetings, planning efforts, invasive species alerts, regional milestones, training opportunities, events, funding programs, and job announcements, among other items. Statewide invasive species program partners, such as the DEC Invasive Species Coordination Unit and iMapInvasives also use the listservs to share statewide news.

APIPP PRISM Activity Blog

APIPP’s seasonal blog is used to keep citizens who are interested in the Adirondacks and invasive species informed about work underway. The blog features content about invasive species news relevant to the region. The blog is updated with a new story usually once or twice a week during the summer months. NYS Online Invasive Species Monthly Speaker Series

Another opportunity to stay informed on the latest invasive species news in NY is by listening in to the monthly invasive species webinars held the last Wednesday of every month from 11:00-12:00 (Calls are not held in July, August, or December). This is an excellent opportunity to hear about invasive species work happening across the state as well as an expert presentation on a specific invasive species issue of importance.

Everyone is welcome to call in. For the presentation schedule, click here. To join the presentation, go to this WebEx link and follow the on-screen call-in details.

If you cannot make the call, full recordings of all past presentations can be found at the New York Invasive Species Clearinghouse.

Individual recordings of the featured presentations are also available on the NY Invasives YouTube Channel.

General agenda items for these calls include:

11:00–11:15 News from around the state. A time for PRISMs to share any new information
11:15–11:45 Topical discussion (look at specific topics here)
11:45–12:00 Upcoming activities, next call and other comments
